Spanish Bike Tours
Your Local Expert in Self-guided Cycling Tours
Spanish Bike Tours is a self-guided cycling tour operator based in Arenas de Cabrales, in Spain's Picos de Europa mountain range (Asturias). It is registered as an incoming travel agent and tour operator under Asturian licence AV-101-AS and operates as the Spanish brand of S-Cape Travel, a group tracing back to SNP Natuurreizen, founded in the Netherlands in 1989 by biologists Toine de Jong and Gert Nieuwboer. S-Cape rebranded in 2008 and now runs around 60 specialists across a dozen local brands, including Spanish Bike Tours, Italian Bike Tours, French Bike Tours and others under the European Bike Tours network. Spanish Bike Tours itself is led by María Knaapen, who has worked in Spanish tourism since 1988, and is staffed by an 11-person local team covering reservations, product development, groups and marketing.
The company designs, books and supports self-guided (and some small-group) cycling holidays across mainland Spain and the Balearics, handling the itinerary, hotels, luggage transfers, bike rental and detailed route notes and maps for each trip. Tours run as round trips, linear routes or centre-based itineraries, and can be tailored into custom or more challenging programmes; several are also offered as e-bike options.
Its catalogue spans easy family holidays, coastal and mountain routes, and thematic trips built around gastronomy, culture, nature and history, with a strong line in Camino de Santiago pilgrimage routes (Camino del Norte and Camino Primitivo variants of differing length, plus a León-to-Santiago route). Regional coverage includes Asturias and Green Spain, Andalucía, Catalonia, Murcia, La Rioja and Mallorca.
