Historical and hipster combined? Hipstoric! Synonyms with the district Grünerløkka, explore the cool side of Oslo. From famous Norwegian artists to colourful street art, join us for our Hipstoric Grünerløkka Private Bike Tour!
Have you heard of Grünerløkka? If not, you’re about to! In a few words, it’s a neighbourhood where you find a remarkable food hall, plenty of restaurants and bars, original design shops and to top it off, a river and waterfall, run straight through it. We couldn’t think of a better way to discover Oslo’s bohemian soul than by bike, on our Hipstoric Grünerløkka Private Bike Tour. Are you game!?
Starting in the city centre, we make our way past the famous Oslo Opera House, stopping for a photo, of course, savouring the view of the Oslo Fjord as we travel along the Oslo Harbour. Suddenly a stream, burbling as it moves along its bed, bubbling over rocks and branches appears, it’s the start of the Akerselva River. Aiming for it’s a most impressive waterfall, we ride along the river which is surrounded by old industrial buildings, colourful urban housing and recreational areas. What’s not to love!
Coming back down again, we happen upon a giant chandelier at Blå, a super-popular food hall at Vulkan, and the charming collections of old wooden houses from the 1800s at Telthusbakken and Damsrtedet. We’ll leave our bikes so you can get your camera out, you’ll definitely want a photo of the picturesque hillside houses and gardens. Next up is Our Saviour’s Cemetery, where we’ll say hello to none other than Edvard Munch, Ibsen and Bjørnson. Don’t know who the last person is? Not to worry, we’ll fill you in!
Pretty soon, we’re back at the starting point. Of course, we’ll have made a stop at Mathallen, the food hall, to stretch our legs and grab a snack during our tour. Hopefully, by now, you’ll have fallen in love with what we like to describe as Oslo’s hipster mecca, Grünerløkka.
Please note: We will be biking on flat surfaces as well as on a few hills. We recommend bringing a bottle of water with you on the tour. Mathallen is closed on Mondays.
