Natural High was established in 1996 in Nelson, before relocating to Christchurch in 2005. With additional depots in Taupo, Rotorua, Wellington, Nelson, Blenheim, Queenstown, Dunedin and Invercargill, Natural High now offers the largest and best selection of bike rental in New Zealand, a growing range of self-guided and guided cycle tours, as well as campervan rental.
Natural High’s current owners are Steve and Cecileah Inns, who live in Christchurch with their three children. Steve has always been passionate about mountain biking, and bought his first mountain bike in 1996 (the same year Natural High was born). He’s competed in many events over the years, including the Rainbow Rage, the Pass to Pub, the Caveman, the Hanmer Hammerhead, the Run 79 Lake Tekapo MTB Pursuit and the Motatapu, which takes place every year in the Wanaka to Queenstown high country.

This tour is a great extension to any tour ending in Queenstown or as a stand alone tour with its own merits. South of Queenstown offers some great cycling and scenic country. We kick things off by exploring the abundant network of trails in Christchurch’s Port Hills and Adventure Park, before heading west to take on Canterbury’s hidden gem that is the Craigieburn Trails.
Get excited, the iconic Old Ghost Road is up next. From Lyell, we follow the 85km trail through thick beach forest, along rocky ridges, down the infamous Skyline staircase and out through the Mohikinui River Gorge to Seddonville.
The 19th century trail was once created to connect gold fields between the Buller Gorge and the Mohikinui Valley, although it was never finished as the trail was deemed too rugged!
Our expert mountain biking guides will drive you from A to B, muster up a homecooked meal and even treat you to a skills session. You’ll also enjoy classic Kiwi hospitality in a mix of alpine lodges and remote huts with unbeatable views.

From the snow-capped peaks of the Southern Alps to the wild landscape of the West Coast, this popular ride provides a unique, first-hand perspective of the diverse and spectacular scenery of New Zealand’s South Island.
The route travels in a southern direction through the middle of the South Island crossing two passes, Burkes and Lindis Pass, via the Canterbury Plans and the barren Mackenzie Country and into the more arid central Otago area. The following days see us complete the Clutha Gold and Roxburgh Gorge Trails as we continue to explore Central Otago’s rocky landscapes along the Clutha / Mata‑au River. Uncork the pleasures of the Waipara Valley, a region well-known for its award-winning aromatic wines and spectacular views of the Southern Alps.
Spend a relaxed sunny day cycling through some of New Zealand’s world-class vineyards. This easy, fully-guided tour is perfect for all wine and food fanatics.
You’ll be picked up and driven north to your first cellar door for morning coffee and your first sampling experience. After another wine tasting in the quaint little town of Waipara it’ll be time to get on your bikes. You’ll cycle along quiet country roads to join the wine trail which will take you to lunch. You’ll learn about the rich history of the region, while tasting and selecting the perfect wine to accompany your delicious antipasto shared platter. After a lazy lunch (shared platter), you’ll hop back on the bikes and ride through rolling vineyards to your final winery destination.
