It shows you how a former part of the North Sea has transformed into a the cultural landscape.

About the route:
The route takes you along dykes and pastures, through dunes, along the world-famous bulb area with its unforgettable fields of flowers and the island of Texel. Through small villages and ancient historical cities, like the vibrant city of Amsterdam where you can enjoy the picturesque streets, squares and harbors. Along the way you’ll encounter the typical wooden houses and traditional farmhouses. Do not forget the museums about the history of the country and museums works by famous Dutch masters.

This route is also bookable without the trip to Texel.

Let’s take for instance Delft: a beautiful old city with its Delftware, the monuments around the House of Orange-Nassau and the world-famous painter Johannes Vermeer. Or Gouda with its still intact cozy Old Dutch town center which is famous for its candles and cheeses, the fairy tale town hall and atmospheric canals.

The route leads along the most beautiful historic city centers The Netherlands has to offer. The ports of Rotterdam, the old Dutch fishing villages like Schiedam with the five highest mills in the world and gin distilleries. Unforgettable is also the Kinderdijk with its world famous windmills.

Friesland has always been known for its fishing villages and livestock and arable farming. But today you still see the piebald beef cattle and proud black Frisian horses grazing in the ever-surrounding fields. The beautiful Wadden Islands are part of the province of Friesland! In Harlingen, you can book an extra night to visit the islands Vlieland and Terschelling which you can reach easily by a short ferry ride. Keep a close eye on the sea, seals are often spotted here!
