Discover Amsterdam at night: a 1.5-hour evening city bike tour

This 1.5-hour guided evening ride shows Amsterdam at its most atmospheric, as landmarks, canals and neighbourhoods light up after dark. Starting near Dam Square, small groups follow a local guide past the illuminated Royal Palace, the Anne Frank House and the Westerkerk, then on through the Jordaan, the Nine Streets and the UNESCO-listed Canal Belt to Museumplein.

Along the way the guide shares stories and facts about the city's history, with plenty of stops for photos at scenic spots. Riders use comfortable 3-speed city bikes with handbrakes, and the tour starts with a complimentary coffee.

Relaxed in pace and short enough to fit around dinner or other plans, the tour suits visitors wanting a different perspective on the city. It also works well as a follow-up for those who have already seen Amsterdam by day.

Highlights

  • Dam Square, the Royal Palace and National Monument lit up at night
  • The Anne Frank House and the illuminated Westerkerk tower
  • Quiet, lamp-lit streets and canals of the Jordaan
  • Cafés and boutiques of the Nine Streets
  • The UNESCO-listed Canal Belt reflecting 17th-century architecture
  • Museumplein, with the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum illuminated

Surface and terrain
Flat, sealed city streets and bike lanes through central Amsterdam. Evening traffic is generally lighter than by day, but riders still share space with local cyclists and trams, so basic confidence on a bike is needed.

Weather
Amsterdam is mild and changeable, with rain possible year-round and cool evenings outside summer. Tours run rain or shine (ponchos supplied) but may be rescheduled in severe weather warnings.

Suitable for
Visitors of all kinds wanting a relaxed, easy ride and a different view of the city after dark. Riders should be comfortable cycling in traffic. Minimum age 12 on public tours.
