All this awaits you on your cycle tour through Salzburg and Upper Austria. The enjoyment you’ll find makes the Ten Lakes Tour a unique and unforgettable cycling trip. Promise!
The tour starts and finishes in beautiful Salzburg. Via Gmunden, Hallstatt and Bad Ischl you cycle to the ten lakes. The rolling hills allow you to rest during the downhill before the next slight incline is due. Do you love to combine experience and relaxation? Jackpot! Then the Ten Lakes Tour is perfect for your next bike adventure - because with each pedal you get closer to the enchanting lake scenery.
Highlights
- ‘Silent Night’ village of Oberndorf: If you cycle along the Salzach, you reach the village of Oberndorf. It’s the birthplace of the Christmas carol Silent Night. If you feel like more culture and history, you’ll be happy. If you cycle a few kilometres to Arnsdorf, you’ll find the famous Silent Night Museum.
- Schafberg: Climb up the mountain on a rack railway train. The Schafberg is known as a fabulous lookout point and lies in the centre of the province of Salzburg. When you reach the top, you have a wonderful panoramic view of the surrounding lake district of the Salzkammergut!
- Imperial Villa, Bad Ischl: Bad Ischl is the gateway to the mountains and alpine lakes in the Salzkammergut. But that is far from everything! This place is also home to the ‘Imperial Villa’ the beloved Austrian Empress Sisi and Emperor Franz Joseph I enjoyed in the summer months. Tip: The famous tea house of Empress Sisi is definitely worth a visit.
On the banks of the lakes and at the river Salzach, the routes are completely flat. In between, the terrain is mainly hilly. Depending on the option chosen, approximately one third of the route is on cycle paths and almost all of the rest goes through fields and along forest paths, farm roads, and quiet side roads. There are only a few short sections on roads with more traffic.

From “The Golden Roof” To Romeo & Juliette
If you can enjoy the highlights of two countries at once during a cycle tour, then you've done everything right. The lively old town in Innsbruck, the episcopal city of Brixen, the Domplatz in Trento or the idyllic village of Auer - this tour simply has it all. On top of that, there are magnificent views, historic cycle paths, cultural insights and the wonderful culinary delights of Italy and Austria. Join us on this grandiose tour!
Let's start in the capital of Tyrol: Innsbruck offers numerous opportunities for a trip up the mountain before the cycling really begins. Via charming Sterzing you continue to Brixen and from there to Bolzano, where the historic Laubengasse invites you to take a stroll.
But you also save some energy for the stage on day 4, which ends with a glass of wine in the pretty village of Auer. On the way to Trento, enjoy the landscape lined with fruit trees and vines before finally reaching Verona via Rivalta. But before reaching your destination, be sure not to pass by two Trentino gems, the beautiful Rovereto and the magnificent velvet town of Ala.
Highlights
- The Golden Roof in Innsbruck: The famous landmark has now been shaping its home for over 500 years. You should not only look at the 2,657 fire-gilded copper shingles, but also at the places underneath - what is a bare bottom doing on the "Goldenes Dachl"?
- South Tyrolean wine and fruit: The mildly sunny yet windy climate makes all the difference - the fruit varieties of apple, pear and apricot thrive particularly well on the alpine southern slopes. But the wine is not to forgotten. Take time for a rest in this special region.
- Trento Domplatz: Watch the people strolling, marvel at the artistically painted houses and take a souvenir photo at the Neptune Fountain - the central square of the northern Italian city invites you to linger.
- Cycle around the Arena di Verona: Very few cities exude this much charm and romance, but Verona is one of them. You could certainly fall in love here every day! Why not pay a visit to Juliet's balcony and take a spin around the third largest amphitheatre still standing?
You will cycle on beautiful bike paths along the river valleys of Eisack and Adige. From Verona you will pedal mostly on side roads with little traffic. You will be taken up to the Brenner Pass from where the route will take you downhill 1,300 meters in altitude. There are only a few short climbs on Lake Caldaro and before Verona. This is a bike tour for everyone!

The classic on Adige Cycle Path
In eight days through Tyrol! On this trip with Eurobike there is not only a lot to see, but it also leads through two countries: Austria and Italy. Along the cycle path on Italy's second longest river, the Adige, it is mountainous at first. With every kilometre cycled south, the atmosphere becomes more Mediterranean. Whether Innsbruck and Imst on the Austrian side or Merano and Bolzano in Italy - enjoy the beautiful cities after the physical activity in nature!
Start the tour in the world-famous Innsbruck with views of the Hafelekar on one side and the Bergisel ski jump and Patscherkofel in the opposite direction. On the way to the first stage destination, don't miss the view of the Cistercian Abbey of Stams and go in search of the origin of the famous operetta "Die Vogelhändler" in Imst.
After a climb up the Reschen Pass, the famous Reschensee lake including the church spire in the water awaits with fascinating views. On day 4, the route leads past majestic castles and palaces to beautiful Merano, which can be discovered in detail on day 5 - of course, several alternatives are available for the rest day. Finally, along the South Tyrolean Wine Road, Bolzano awaits with its extraordinary architecture.
Highlights
- The Golden Roof in Innsbruck: 2,657 shingles make up the famous landmark in the capital of Tyrol. Did you know? But they are not made of gold, but fire-gilded copper. Not only the Golden Roof is worth a visit, but also the lively Innsbruck city centre that surrounds it.
- Magnificent panorama of the Ortler: "King Ortler" is enthroned in the Vinschgau Valley at 3,905 metres - but that's not the only thing that's impressive. Around 100 glaciers are located in the mountain massif of the group. Soak up the magnificent views along the route, especially on day 4.
- South Tyrolean wine at Lake Kaltern: First treat yourself to a swim in Lake Kaltern, which is one of the warmest in the Alps thanks to its shallow average depth of around four metres. Afterwards, why not treat yourself? How about a hearty ‘jause’ at a wine producer alongside a taste of the palatable South Tyrolean wines?
- Stroll through the Laubengasse in Bolzano: Enjoy a cappuccino at Walther Square with a view of the cathedral then stroll through the "Via dei Portici" and look for souvenirs to take back home - if that's not a worthy conclusion to this cycle tour, what is?
You will cycle on bike paths in the river valleys of the Inn and Adige rivers. A bus will take you from Landeck to Nauders. From there you will cycle uphill 70 metres in altitude until you reach Reschenpass (mountain pass). Afterwards, you can enjoy cycling downhill for more than 1,200 metres in altitude to Bolzano. In order to stay on calm roads, cycling some small climbs will be necessary.

From The Tavern Bums’n To Vienna’s Prater
The Danube Cycle Path is a real classing among cycle tours and rightly so! Charming cities such as the baroque Schärding, culinary delights and beautiful nature in the Wachau as well as cultural highlights in the Daube metropolis of Vienna await.
The 8-day tour begins in Schärding, where you can walk through the picturesque castle park and search for the origin in the name of the famous ‘Wirtshaus zur Bums’n’. Did you know that the Danube is the second longest river in Europe at 2,857 kilometres. Don’t worry, you don’t have to cycle that far. You reach your destination in Vienna and can indulge in the unique flair of one of the world’s most liveable cities.
After leaving Schärding, the next highlight awaits after a short stage: the three-river city of Passau. Tip: Be sure to stroll through the pretty alleys of the old town, after all, Passau is known as the ‘Venice of Bavaria’. Linz also has a lot to offer, including an excellent range of art and culture. Also to be highlighted are the places of worship on the tour. In addition to the cathedral with the world’s largest organ in Passau, the monastery in Engelhartzell awaits with delicious liqueur creations as well as Melk monastery and the Maria Teferl Basilica.
Highlights
- The colourful town square of Schärding: The centre of the baroque town literally shines in all colours. In the Middle Ages, the houses along the Silberzeile were painted according to the shop keepers guild – for example, bakers sold from blue houses and butchers in red. Enjoy the blaze of colours!
- The natural spectacle of the Schlögener Schlinge: Where the Danube turns 180 degrees, which with a bit of perseverance can be best seen from the viewing platform ‘Schlögener Blick’.
- The Grüner Veltliner in the Wachau: Whether apricot jam, Sturm or the famous Grüner Veltliner – the culinary delights of the area between Melk and Krems on the Danube should be enjoyed with all the senses!
- The historic Viennese Prater with Ferris wheel: Originally used as the emperor’s hunting ground, the Prater was opened to the public in 1977 and developed into an amusement park that still casts visitors under a magical spell. Anyone who dates to ride on the world-famous Ferris wheel will be rewarded with a wonderful view over Vienna’s rooftops.
Flat or slightly downhill along the Danube; well-built cycle path almost all the way without motor vehicles. Minor roads make up only very short sections of this route – the Danube cycle path is an extremely well-built cycle route.

Cycling on the Austrian Riviera
Do you know which part of Austria gets the most sunshine? Guess! In Carinthia, Austria’s southernmost state, of course. The area around the picturesque Carinthian lakes is also known as the Austrian Riviera. And not without reason. Here you can witness the perfect interplay of sun, mountains, water and southern lifestyle. Romantic valleys, sparkling lakes, majestic mountains and picturesque landscapes invite you to an unforgettable cycle tour in the south of Austria.
The enchanting small town of Villach is the starting point for this popular cycle tour. Where the jesters make their jokes during Carnival time, you get a perfect, first impression of Carinthia’s sunny climate. From here you can discover Austria’s warmest swimming lakes, such as the Ossiacher See, Klopeiner See, Faaker See and of course the Wörthersee. A slightly hilly route on mostly separate cycle paths, always with the lake in sight, makes this tour a real pleasure.
Highlights
- Villach: The loveable small town impresses with great surroundings and delightful cityscape. You will find crystal clear lakes all around, untouched nature and imposing mountains. An absolute highlight.
- The famous Wörthersee: Much sung about and highly praised it is, next to the Wolfgangsee, probably one of the most famous lakes in Austria. Turquoise blue water, picturesque banks and the well-known town of Velden invite you to linger.
- Klagenfurt: The capital of Carintha is also known as ‘The Rose from Lake Wörthersee’. And once you’ve been there, you’ll understand why. The lovely city centre and an almost Mediterranean flair make Klagenfurt a real gem.
The alternation between the individual river valleys and Lakes – as well as avoiding roads with heavy traffic – brings about a slightly hilly tour course. This journey can be easily enjoyed by cyclists in normal fitness condition. Mostly you cycle along asphaltic bike paths and side roads with less of traffic.
