This tour is for people who prefer to explore the rural Thailand in an adventurous way, can appreciate the comfort of a small but unique resort and want to try the local cuisine.
After a short safety briefing and fitting of the panniers on the racks, we start the tour from the hotel. Through a sophisticated route we leave the city in a fun way. You come into neighborhoods of Chiang Mai that tourists normally never get to see. Outside the city we follow the Ping River upstream, heading north. The landscape is very varied with beautiful views of the mountains of Doi Suthep and Doi Pui. We continue our trip on country roads, passing through small villages and cycling alternately along orchards, rice fields, canals and fields with a wide variety of agricultural crops. The last part of today's ride we cycle on a gently sloping road to the small beautiful resort where we stay overnight. It is located in "the middle of nowhere". It has a nice pool with great views and a good restaurant.
After a delicious breakfast we are ready for another beautiful day of cycling. The first part of the route we cycle along country roads through a varied and beautiful landscape. It is one of my favorite routes, that passes through an amazing area that looks a little different in every season. Along the route that follows, there are many places that you can visit and an orchid farm may be well worth a visit. Leaving the area of Mae Rim, we cycle back on quiet country roads. Soon we continue our way along the Ping River that leads us back to Chiang Mai.
This bike tour is suitable for people in good condition as well as for families with children over ten that can ride very well.

In some some of the villages time seems to have come to a hold many years ago. You will experience the farmers' daily life and you will notice they still work in a traditional way. We will visit an impressive temple, located on a hill. The monastery is an important social center and school for the area. After visiting the local market, we continue to our accommodation for the night: a small boutique resort with swimming pool. Great food (Malaysian, Thai, Singaporean and Western) is being served by the very friendly hosts while you enjoy the lush, natural surroundings.
After a hearty breakfast your guide meets you for another cycling day. On today's trip you will pass by a Chinese cemetery and visit the nearby dam and reservoir. The best option for people who want to see, learn, experience and discover much of the present Thailand and its people, culture, traditions, religion and history. Anyone with an average condition can ride this relaxing and very varied bicycle tour while enjoying the beautiful surroundings south of Chiang Mai.
After a short safety briefing we start the bike tour from your hotel or another place in the city that we agreed upon. You will notice that the traffic isn't that bad at this time of the day and we will be out of the city in no time. We follow the Ping River downstream to the south. The banks of the river look beautifully green all year round. First we visit a beautiful and remarkable Chinese temple. On our next stop, a former leper colony, we seem to be back in the beginning of the last century. Today, the institute is a rehabilitation center where its residents can enjoy the quiet and leafy setting. We cycle further south and we are treated with a wide variety of impressions of the real Thailand. Through narrow roads we cycle to Ban Tawai, a village that mainly Thai tourists visit because of its wood carvings. You'll get plenty of time to stroll the area. Around noon, we have lunch in a local restaurant. Then we cycle along country roads through rice fields and small villages to Chiang Mai. Before entering Chiang Mai we explore the ruins of Wiang Kum Kam, a city that already flourished in the late 13th century.

This 4-day renewed cycling tour east and south of Chiang Mai shows you the diversity of the Northern Thai countryside and you will experience its people and culture in a way only a cyclist can.
After a short safety briefing, we cycle down narrow lanes through some of Chiang Mai’s interesting neighborhoods, past beautiful houses and through areas rarely seen by tourists. Once we leave Chiang Mai behind us we will cycle on country roads through a beautiful and ever changing scenery. You will see orchards, rice fields, irrigation canals, pass through small villages and witness the farmer’s daily life activities. We pass a Chinese cemetery and glimpse tantalizing views of a temple on top of a hill. We will visit this beautiful temple, which is also an important social centre and school for the area. After a visit to the local market we continue through small villages and paddy fields. Your first accommodation is a small boutique resort with a nice swimming pool, located in a lush, natural surrounding. In the restaurant a rich menu of Thai, Malaysian, Singaporian and Western food is served.
Today’s cycling will give us further insight into the Thai way of life. We will continue cycling through rice fields, orchards, and small villages, taking regular breaks. Along the way, we will visit some local hot springs, caves and a most interesting and quite unique temple. Part of this trip has some rolling hills and some climbing needs to be done but this shouldn't be a problem since we are using bicycles with 24 gears. Today’s accommodation is a small lodge in a local village. It has only a couple nicely decorated rooms available. The lodge has a nice swimming pool with bar where excellent cocktails are served. The restaurant has a very good choice of delicious Thai food. Thai massage is available.
This is the longest day of the tour but we feel fit to tackle the challenge. After a short warm up, the road goes up hill for some kilometers. Then the country flattens out and we are back into an area of paddy fields and local villages. Today's scenery is completely different again. We cycle along irrigation channels, orchards, rice fields, traditional farms and typical Thai villages. We pass a 29 metre high standing Buddha protruding from the flat countryside. Next, we are heading towards Lamphun where we will visit Wat Phrathat Haripunchai, one of the most revered temples in Northern Thailand. Avoiding the traffic, we cross Lamphun and continue the ride on quiet back roads. The last part is through a village where time has stood still. On either side we discover chedis and ruins, some of which are over seven centuries old. Our overnight accommodation is a resort, converted from old tobacco barns, with nicely and tastefully decorated rooms. It has a large swimming pool and is located in the quiet and peaceful surroundings of a park.
During the first part of today you will ride through mainly longan orchards. Families in this area make sa paper still using traditional methods. Via nice routes, we cycle to Ban Tawai, a small village famous for its wood carving artisans. We have enough time to look around the various stalls. Afterwards, we join the Ping River with its lush green banks throughout the year. A visit to a former leper colony, now a rehabilitation center, gives some insight into the activities of the missionaries in days gone bye. A visit to ancient ruins of the former site of Chiang Mai rounds off the day. With pleasure you will look back and remember the highlights of this cycling adventure.

This cycling trip focuses on the rural Thailand and experiencing the local people who mostly work in agriculture. It starts outside the city and continues on carefully selected roads. It's the perfect match for those who have ridden one of our tours south of Chiang Mai before.
You will be picked up from your hotel as scheduled and brought to the starting point of the trip outside the city. After a short briefing we start our exploration of the Thai countryside. Our trail goes on quiet roads and stretches along rice fields, canals, orchards and farmland with a huge variety of crops. In some of the villages, it seems like time has stood still for many years. People are still farming the land according to old traditions. On our way, we visit some small scale projects. One of them is a local anthropological museum. We will make regular stops so that you can get acquainted a bit more with the local population and its culture and get a good image of the diversity of the rural, "real" Thailand. After the tour, you will be picked up and brought back to your hotel.
