Abruzzo historic cycling journey into secret landscapes

Bikelife cycling holiday takes place in this area of ‚Äã‚ÄãAbruzzo with an itinerary, involving as many as 15 municipalities, with many sites of historical / cultural interest, spread over more than 165 km. The ring itinerary, embraces part of the Peligna valley, the Aterno and the Tirino rivers, known for their archaeological and monumental heritage. We will touch L’Aquila, the Gran Sasso with its historic villages, the Peligna Valley with Sulmona and neighboring villages. The paths allow us to touch multiple urban centers of Roman times and some of the richest necropolises in the region: the “Morroni” of Corfinio and the necropolis of Fossa and Bazzano. Among the most characteristic places of faith in our region there are hermitages of S. Terenziano in Corfinio, of S.Venanzio in Raiano. Probably, the medieval evidence of this trip best express their potential with churches, villages, castles, palaces and fountains of particular beauty, such as the Oratory of San Pellegrino which together with the Church of Santa Maria Assunta characterize the small town of Bominaco , while the monumentality of the Romanesque architecture of Abruzzo is witnessed by the church of S. Pelino in Corfinio. Italic evidence with Peltuinum, an ancient Italic town of the Vestini. Very interesting Christian catacombs, like those of Castelvecchio Subequo, are also known in Abruzzo.
