Bikepacking Transylvania's finest gravel routes, forests and Saxon villages

Gravel Tour in the Wilderness of Romania is a guided bikepacking adventure for keen cyclists who want to spend their days deep in nature. With a natural network of forestry and unpaved roads, Romania is fast becoming a paradise for gravel riders, and Bike in Time have built this loop around some of the country's most beautiful gravel routes. Around two-thirds of the riding is off the tarmac, through deep forest, sheep pastures and rolling Transylvanian hills, with experienced guides leading the way.

Starting and finishing in the remote village of Cund, the route covers around 300 km over five riding days. Highlights on the bike include the wilderness stretch from Biertan to Stejarisu, the curious "100 hills" landscape, a 50 km single trail from Viscri towards Sighișoara and a final day on the long-distance Via Transilvanica trail, passing through a reserve of centennial oaks. Gravel or hybrid bikes are supplied, or you can bring your own.

The "back in time" feel is present every day, both on the trail and in the accommodation. Between rides you'll pass Saxon villages, old manors and UNESCO-listed fortified churches at Malancrav, Biertan and Viscri, stop for lunch at an ecological farm and spend a night inside the medieval citadel of Sighișoara. Nights are in renovated guesthouses, a former parish house and 3-star hotels, with full board and plenty of local cooking, so you can focus on the riding while experiencing the culture and history of rural Transylvania.
