Join your friends on this leisurely 3-hour, 9-mile bike tour that zeros in on the people, places, and events of Atlanta’s LGBTQ+ History. On this tour, guests will learn about the development of the Queer neighborhood centers; the role gay individuals played in the 1960’s Civil Rights Movement; the rise of political and professional influencers; nightlife culture, and the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ Equality.
Come celebrate the triumphs of this city as Atlanta continues to be recognized as one of the most welcoming cities for the LGBTQ+ communities in the nation.
Sites we’ll explore include:
The Atlanta Eagle, the first protected LGBTQ+ historic landmark in the Deep South; the “crime scene” and courts associated with the 1986 Supreme Court case Bowers v. Hardwick; Bulldog’s; The King Historic Center, the establishments that propelled the early career of drag superstar RuPaul; and historic LGBTQ+ nodes of Midtown, Virginia-Highland, and Little 5 Points; as well as murals and sculptures that speak to important figures and events in the history of LGBTQ+ ATL.
