A 15-day multi-activity journey across Morocco, from Blue City medinas to Sahara dunes and Atlas Mountain villages (not a dedicated cycling tour).
Ultimate Morocco crosses the country from Casablanca to Marrakech, taking in the ancient medinas of Chefchaouen (the Blue City), Fes and Marrakech, plus the famous rainbow-hued tanneries. The route winds through the fertile Ziz Valley, into the Sahara Desert for a camel ride and overnight dune camp, and up into the Ifrane cedar forests of the Middle Atlas mountains.
Along the way, riders visit kasbahs, small Berber villages and the Todra Gorges, join a sacred henna ceremony, and share a home-cooked tagine dinner with a local family. One day includes cycling through a palm grove oasis.
The trip closes with time at the Amal Women's Training Center in Marrakech before farewells. Run by Wild Women Expeditions, it's guided throughout by a local female tour leader with additional local guides in key towns.
Highlights:
- Explore the Blue City of Chefchaouen and the medinas of Fes and Marrakech
- Cycle through a palm grove oasis in the Ziz Valley region
- Camel ride into the Sahara Desert and overnight at a dune camp
- Visit the Ifrane cedar forests and Todra Gorges in the Middle Atlas
- Join a traditional henna ceremony and a home-cooked tagine dinner
- Visit the Amal Women's Training Centre in Marrakech
Surface and terrain:
Terrain varies widely by activity rather than being cycling-focused. The single cycling day (Day 10) covers a moderate pace on a mix of dirt, gravel and pavement, distance not stated. Optional walking covers hilly, uneven terrain up to 12 km (7.5 miles). Camel riding is at walking pace in desert dunes. Long vehicle transfers of up to six hours a day cover winding, bumpy roads. One night is spent camping in the Sahara.
Weather:
Varied conditions across the route, including rain, heat and (rarely) sandstorms. Desert nights can be cold; city and medina exploring happens in heat with little shade.
Suitable for:
Women travelling solo or in groups, rated "Easy–Moderate," with 3–5 hours of daily activity. Suits those wanting a mixed activity trip (culture, light walking, cycling, camel riding) rather than dedicated cyclists, and who are comfortable with long vehicle transfers, desert camping and varied terrain. Trips can be scaled to different ability levels; contact the operator with any physical or medical concerns.
