Évora Megaliths Tour

This guided full-day ride explores the countryside west of Évora, one of Europe's richest areas for prehistoric monuments. After a 9:30 am pick-up from your hotel, the ride starts in Guadalupe and follows scenic dirt roads and short single tracks through the green landscapes of Valverde.

Highlights include the Almendres Cromlech and Menhir, standing for more than 5,000 years, and the Great Dolmen of Zambujeiro, one of the largest prehistoric burial sites in Portugal. The route also visits the ruins of Giraldo's Castle, with an optional tough climb, and the Roman ruins of Tourega.

Mid-ride, your guide stops under a shady tree for local cheese, chorizo and a glass of Portuguese wine. The day ends with a leisurely ride through Évora's UNESCO-listed streets, taking in architectural highlights and hidden corners before returning to your hotel.

Surface and terrain
Mostly scenic dirt roads with some single track, linked by stretches of asphalt. Gently rolling overall, with an optional difficult climb to Giraldo's Castle. Rated Easy by the operator.

Weather
The Alentejo has hot, dry summers, mild spring and autumn days, and cooler, wetter winters. Spring and autumn are best for a full day in the saddle.

Suitable for
Casual and leisure riders, families and history lovers comfortable with a full day on mostly unsealed roads. Children up to 12 are catered for, and e-bikes are available.
