Arrábida Mountain

The mountain bike trails of Arrábida Natural Park, just south of Lisbon, wind through a truly Mediterranean landscape of rolling vineyards, cork oak forests and dramatic panoramas above steep limestone cliffs. This guided full-day tour includes hotel pick-up and drop-off, making it an easy active escape from the city.

On dirt tracks with some climbing, you take in sweeping ocean views and the layered history of this former Moorish region, one of Portugal's true natural gems. The day includes a visit to the hilltop Castle of Sesimbra and a stop at Portinho da Arrábida, a sheltered beach beneath the cliffs, where the route finishes.

Along the way you enjoy a traditional pastry and a special drink. The day can be extended with a wine tasting at José Maria da Fonseca, tile painting in Azeitão, a picnic lunch, or a night in Sesimbra followed by a kayak trip.

Weather
Arrábida has a mild Mediterranean climate, sheltered by the mountain from northerly winds. Summers are warm and sunny, ideal for a swim, and winters are mild with most of the rain. Spring and autumn are best for riding.

Suitable for
Riders with some off-road experience and reasonable fitness who enjoy coastal scenery. E-bikes make the climbs easier. Families with older children are welcome.
