Unforgettable New Zealand Walking & Cycle Tours
Tuatara Tours is a New Zealand owned and operated adventure travel company that has spent close to two decades organising guided walking and cycling tours across New Zealand's South Island, as well as international trips to Japan, Bhutan and Australia. Founded from a deep passion for the outdoors, the company was built with a mission to help people explore the landscapes they love most, on foot or by bike.
Tuatara Tours runs small-group, fully supported tours that include accommodation, meals, luggage transfers and expert guiding, aiming to remove the logistics so travellers can focus on the experience. Their cycling tours cover some of New Zealand's best known Great Rides, including trails through the Southern Alps, the West Coast, Central Otago and the Nelson-Tasman region, catering to a range of fitness levels from easy family-friendly rides to more demanding multi-day journeys. Both manual and e-bikes are available for hire on tour.
Alongside standard mixed-group departures, they offer ladies-only tours for travellers who prefer an all-female group setting. The company is based in Christchurch and has strong ties to the local community, including supporting environmental initiatives such as adopting a tuatara at Christchurch's Orana Wildlife Park.
Their guiding philosophy centres on responsible and sustainable travel, aiming to minimise environmental impact while sharing New Zealand's unspoiled landscapes with visitors.

Journey Into The Past!
The Otago Central Rail Trail is ideal for cyclists who wish to see some spectacular Central Otago scenery, at an easy pace, on flat (gravelled) terrain.Trains typically travel through hills, around hills but (if it can be avoided) not uphill (the maximum gradient is 2%).The idea of the Rail Trail was promoted by the New Zealand Department of Conservation (DOC), and The Otago Rail Trail Trust, formed specifically to help create this family-oriented recreational facility. The Trail is a public reserve, and motorised vehicles are not permitted. Therefore walkers and cyclists have no traffic concerns as they traverse the level surface.
