A cycling exploration of tea culture in Southern India & Sri Lanka

Tea. It wasn’t until the British arrived that this wild plant was turned into a commercial crop both in India and in Sri Lanka, creating those iconic images of vast green plantations covering the slopes of endlessly rolling hills. This is the setting for the Tea Route, a cycling exploration of the Indian states of Kerela and Tamil Nadu and the island nation of Sri Lanka. Tea, however, is only the backdrop: riders will also discover ancient ruins, stunning beaches, historic temples, incredible wildlife and much, much more.

The Tea Route takes riders from the shores of the Arabian Sea through Kerala’s verdant forests and waterways and up into the vast reaches of the Western Ghats before delivering them down onto the arid plains of Tamil Nadu, home to some of the world’s most iconic religious temples in Madurai and Mahabalipuram. In Sri Lanka, the ride will leave the cyclist’s heads spinning as they encounter a kaleidoscopic vision of temples, beaches and tea plantations, combined with a distinctive culture, history and cuisine.
