Mediterranean history and culture come to life as we pedal thru Spain, Algeria, Tunisia and Sicily
Pedal through history on the Road of Empires Cycling Adventure. Spin through Spain, Algeria, Tunisia & Sicily and learn about the Moors, Romans, Vandals, Carthaginians, Phoenicians, Aghlabids and ancient Greeks whose cultural influences still reverberate today. The road begins in Seville, Spain once a Moorish capital under the Almohad dynasty. The route continues through the famous cities of Cordoba and Granada along quiet country roads before dropping down to the Mediterranean Sea where a ferry awaits to take the cyclists across to North Africa.
Our historical path continues along the coast of enigmatic Algeria, weaving up and down through the undulating hills and spinning past the haunting ruins of ancient civilizations before arriving in Algiers, the country’s bustling capital. The road continues east past Constantine, the nation’s cultural hub, before crossing the border into Tunisia. After a visit to the Sahara Desert, the route skips back across the Mediterranean to Sicily and follows challenging remote roads with stunning views of Mt Etna before finishing in the grand city of Syracuse.
