Second stage of the Tour d’Afrique Cape to Kili

From the Namibian capital we cross into Botswana and soon tackle the iconic ‘longest day’ of the Tour d’Afrique – a 217 km ride across the plains of Botswana. The country is home to some 110,000 elephants that roam through the Kalahari and Chobe National Parks and the cyclists should not be surprised if they must stop at a safe distance to allow a family of elephants to cross! After a few days, riders arrive in the laid-back city of Maun for a rest day. Here they can take a dugout canoe or a small plane ride into the Okavango, the world’s largest inland river delta, to view some of the area’s prolific wildlife.

Continuing, after camping near the Makgadikgadi Pans Game Reserve the riders will arrive in Kasane and an opportunity to view more wild animals on a Chobe River safari. From there, the tour crosses into Zimbabwe and a day of cycling into Victoria Falls – home of the mighty Mosi-oa-Tunya (‘the smoke that thunders”).
