Al Andalus

This Spanish section begins in the port city of Tangier, at the meeting point of Europe and Africa. A short ferry crossing brings riders to mainland Spain, where the route climbs gradually to the historic city of Ronda and its striking El Tajo Gorge, then continues through rolling hills and small villages to Granada for a rest day exploring the Alhambra Fortress.

Riders spin northwest through the Spanish countryside to a second rest day in Caravaca de la Cruz, home to the sacred Basilica-Sanctuary of La Vera Cruz, before heading to the Mediterranean coast at Calp, known for its rock-cut sea pools and birdwatching. The route follows the coast to Valencia, home of paella, where riders board an overnight ferry to Mallorca for a four-day ride around the island, finishing this section.

Surface and terrain:

1–5% unpaved roads; a touring or gravel bike with 35–40c tyres is recommended. Gradual climbing inland to Ronda, otherwise rolling hills and coastal riding. Tour is e-bike friendly.
