From the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean, from Angola to Mozambique, an incredible cycling journey across Southern Africa.
The original way to cross Africa from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean was the maritime Cape Route past the continent’s southern tip, a perilous journey that sent many ships to the bottom of the sea, including the Flying Dutchman in 1641. In the 1880’s, Portuguese explorer Alexandre Alberto da Rocha de Serpa Pinto published, ‘How I Crossed Africa’, recalling his overland voyage from ocean to ocean. Now we invite you to join us on our own modern trans-African cycling expedition, following in the footsteps of Pinto and many other adventurous spirits.
The route starts on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean in Luanda, Angola and after passing through Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Eswatini, finishes in Mozambique on Maputo’s beachfront, overlooking the vibrant blue waters of the Indian Ocean. Along the way, the riders will experience Angola’s rich cultural mix, Namibia’s stark, beautiful deserts, Botswana’s vast salt pans, Zimbabwe’s undiscovered treasures, South Africa’s unsurpassed natural beauty, Eswatini’s friendly people and Mozambique’s unique history.
