No holiday to South India is complete without a visit to the tropical state of Kerala. Once the heart of the global spice trade, today one of the subcontinent's premier travel destinations, Kerala beckons with a deeply proud culture. With intricate song and dance rooted in the Hindu epics, a Christian legacy going back to the time of the Apostles, and a refined vegetarian cuisine underpinning Ayurvedic wellness, all set against a lush landscape of rolling hills, river valleys and lagoons, this eight-day bike tour offers a true taste of Kerala's rich heritage.

Starting from Kochi, riders head into Kerala's Spice Belt, where pepper and nutmeg groves thrive beside rubber and pineapple estates. The route passes through Thrissur for a look behind the curtains of classic theatre at one of Kerala's most esteemed academies, then weaves across the rice-paddy plains of the Nila River to the holy pilgrimage town of Guruvayur.

Finally, the tour reaches the Malabar Coast, cycling past towering palm trees and spending a night at Cherai Beach before rolling into Fort Kochi via the scenic backwaters, rounding off with an exploration of Fort Kochi's centuries-old cosmopolitan charm. Surface and terrain:
About 80% paved (good asphalt/concrete plus broken, bumpy sections), 20% vehicle-width gravel and dirt. Terrain is consistently flat to mildly undulating in the midlands and lowlands; only one day exceeds 600m of elevation gain. Average climbing is 384m/day.

Weather:
Kerala has a tropical wet climate in three seasons: hot and humid summer (February–May), monsoon (June–November), and the cooler, driest period (December–January), the best time to visit.

Suitable for:
Rated "Moderate" difficulty. Suited to riders with reasonable fitness; terrain is gentle but stamina is needed for back-to-back days in tropical heat. Basic bike-handling skills help on narrow lanes and gravel sections. Group size 2–16, minimum age 18.
