A memorable two-Kingdom ride!
Get ready for a quintessential Southeast Asian adventure by bike, van, plane, and boat! From the sunny shores of eastern Thailand to the ancient, temple studded plains of Cambodia, this is a storied ride deep into the region's history, culture, cuisine, and hospitality. After picking you up from your hotel in Bangkok, we transfer east and cycle through vibrant tropical fruit orchards to the city of Chanthaburi, renowned for its centuries old riverside community. We then head for the coast and discover a world of estuaries, rugged headlands, shrimp farms, and rubber tree plantations complemented by stays at resorts on peaceful beaches. On day 5 we switch kingdoms to Cambodia. Based in Siem Reap, we have two days of fantastic cycling ahead. Riding on paths perfect for mountain biking, we’ll explore the majestic temples of the once-glorious Khmer Empire, including Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious monument. We also venture further afield to discover lesser-visited sites and immerse ourselves in the ebb and flow of daily life in rural Cambodia, far from the touring masses. We cap off our adventure with a morning boat cruise to the Tonle Sap, Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake.
Due to the closure of Cambodia-Thailand land border crossings, the itinerary has been revised to include 3 days of cycling in Thailand, a flight from Bangkok to Siem Reap, 2 days of cycling in Siem Reap and a morning cruise on the Tonle Sap Lake. The information displayed on this tour page represents the details of this contingency plan which is in effect until further notice.
Our rides include a mix of paved roads in varying conditions, gravel and sand country roads, and vehicle-width dirt roads. While cycling in Angkor, we’ll also enjoy some fun single tracks in the forests. Although much of the route is on quiet countryside roads with minimal traffic, we will regularly share the roads with cars, motorbikes, and buses. There are a few unavoidable sections along the main roads, especially coming in and out of cities and near popular attractions. In the dry season, the roads in Vietnam and Cambodia are notoriously dusty, and when it rains, they can become muddy. We generally ride rain or shine, but based on the guide’s discretion or your comfort level, modifications to the planned route can be made. It’s all part of the adventure!
