Romance and culinary art

Where the magnificent baroque Melk Abbey rises on the southern danube bank, the Wachau begins. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an internationally renowned wine-growing region and one of the most beautiful river valleys in the world, characterised by rich history and extraordinary cultural treasures. Arrive, ascend and find your own pace.

History, culture and nature are all close together in this enchanting region. You cycle on well-maintained cycle paths through a breathtakingly beautiful and varied landscape along the blue Danube, through vineyards and forests and discover historical buildings and monuments that tell of an eventful past.

Conquer the gentle, romantic Danube valley with all its monasteries, castles and palaces in the saddle of a bicycle. Enjoy culinary delicacies such as the Wachau apricot dumplings and taste the famous wines in one of the cosy wine taverns, also called Heurige.

Fully developed, flat cycle path directly along the banks of the Danube. Also very suitable for beginners and children; Kamptal cycle path easy gradients, cycle path is not always asphalted, also gravel and forest paths; Göttweig roundtrip with steep ascent to the monastery.
