The Christchurch Little River Rail Trail is a fantastic day trip out of the city. Winding its way out of town into the country and along the historic Little River Branch railway line, this easy and accessible ride weaves through little towns and villages until reaching Little River. There are preserved railway stations and information boards along the way for the history buffs and incredible scenery and wildlife for nature lovers. The trail passes Te Waihora (Lake Ellesmere) which is recognised as home to New Zealand’s most diverse bird population and the abundant birdlife is an incredible sight to experience.
