Bike 'n Wheels Expedition - Transcontinental Ride - Open for Expressions of Interest
One of Australia’s great bike touring challenges, Outbike’s Gulf-to-Gulf blazes a trail across the heart of our amazing continent, south to north.
These ancient lands reflect the heritage of many nations of Australia’s First Peoples – who lived out there admirably well – and the courage, stubbornness, successes and tragedies of European explorers like the famed but unfortunate Burke and Wills – and the settlers who forged an existence in what was for them, a land of unforgiving remoteness.
The Gulf to Gulf rides Spencer Gulf all the way to Gulf of Carpentaria in 30 days. A quarter of the route is unsealed, notably the 520km Birdsville Track. Since we began the event in 2005, about 400km has been sealed. It’s getting easier!
Week One starts in Port Augusta and explores the spectacular Flinders Ranges to reach the desert railhead of Marree.
Week Two traverses the legendary Birdsville Track.
Week Three rolls across Queensland’s vast Channel Country to Mt Isa.
Week Four rides Carpentaria’s Gulf Country to Normanton and Karumba.

The Tour de Front traces the Front Line from the Belgium coast to the Swiss border. For most of the Great War, the Line didn't shift much. It is around 800 km but we will cover a fair bit more, around 1500 km.
When Austria's 29 year old Archduke Ferdinand sailed into Sydney in 1893, principally to shoot our koalas, platypus and any other innocent wildlife he could line up, no-one could have imagined the apocalypse his own shooting would trigger.
Along the way, we're biased towards: sites significant to the ANZAC and Commonwealth forces; minor roads; towns of historical and scenic interest; nice character accommodations to overnight (most with bistros/restaurants); patisseries and cafes and bars!

A Road Bike Ride In 4 Stages
Our next Outbike Outback epic will be a road bike ride in four stages on Queensland's growing network of sealed remote roads.
Each stage begins or ends at points serviced by Queensland Rail and with the event we hope to demonstrate how outback road-cycling can match well with QR's trains.
Overnight camps will be in towns, beside remote pubs and rest areas. We may have a camp on a cattle station.
Distances will vary from 64 to 230 km. Longest days are 209 and 230 km. 5 days will do 160 to 200 km.
Come for one, two or three stages or come for all!
Companions can travel on our bus at a reduced rate.
Costs are based on: $200 per riding day with camping, breakfasts, lunches & support / plus $50 per rest day with camping and breakfast
