Montagu is about 180 kilometres from Cape Town in the Western Little Karoo.
The Langeberg region incorporates the towns of Robertson, McGregor, Bonnievale, Ashton and Montagu and surrounds the Breede River/Winelands valley. It takes it's name from the Langeberg Mountain range that stretches from Worcester to about 20km north of Mossel Bay, a total distance of approximately 250km.
Montagu was founded on the farm "Uitvlugt" in 1851, and is known for its hot mineral springs and scenic mountains. It is also an agricultural centre, where orchards and vineyards are in production and local herbs are grown. The farming area, 'Koo', lies north of the town and is famous for the quality of its apples, pears, apricots and peaches. Montagu is situated on the famous Route 62.
For the duration of the tour, you stay in a well appointed Bed and Breakfast in the heart of Montagu There is plenty to do and see in the afternoons after your morning cycle. The daily itinerary is a routine of early buffet breakfast, a bus ride out to your start point, a quick briefing on what lies ahead and then away you go. The halfway water-point is stocked with local cuisine, drinks, filtered water and the usual energy boosting nourishment. You are always followed by an ER24 medic and a sweep vehicle.
Lunch is always served at the end of each ride, at a local restaurant in a village or wine farm. On some days we finish at your accommodation, on others we need to transport you back after lunch.
Afternoons are spent taking in the local town and surrounds, plenty of history, interesting national monuments, walks and beautiful scenery.
Dinner is always at a carefully chosen restaurant with great food, wine and beverages We try to "spread the love" in the town and make sure you have lunches and dinners at different restaurants each day. Some of the notable restaurants we visit are 22 on Church, Bluvines and Kapokbos. If you have any specific dietary requirements, our chosen restaurants and caterers are fully equipped to cater to all your needs.

Prince Albert - South Africa's most attractive Karoo Town
The town of Prince Albert is at the southern edge of the Great Karoo. Prince Albert is undoubtedly South Africa's most attractive Karoo Town and lies at the foot of the iconic gravel Swartberg Pass, built by Thomas Bain in 1888, it has remained in it's original form for over 140 years.
For the duration of the tour you are based in Prince Albert at a luxury bed and breakfast. The picturesque town of Prince Albert is known as the "Jewel of the Great Karoo" and lies at the foot of the iconic Swartberg Pass. There's lots to do and see in the town after you've stretched your legs on the bike in the morning.
The routes vary from day to day with differing terrain. You will traverse the iconic Swartberg Pass, ride across the plains of the Great Karoo and experience the farmlands on the southern and northern foothills of the Swartberg Range. It's a real Karoo experience incorporating both the Klein and Groot Karoo.
Water stops are always fully stocked and provided at the halfway mark.
The scenery is always spectacular whether you are climbing 12% inclines in the mountains or cruising the flats out in the desert.
The day's ride ends with lunch at a carefully chosen restaurant.
Afternoons can be spent exploring the town and its attractions like Gay's working dairy or the Art collection at the Prince Albert Gallery, Wine Farms, Olive farms and virgin oil presses or just relax at the numerous antique and coffee shops. A nice afternoon nap is another option.
Evenings are spent socialising and enjoying local cuisine at African Relish, Simply Saffron and other restaurants in the town.
If you have any specific dietary requirements, our restaurants and caterers are fully equipped to cater to all your needs.
Late night entertainment isn't a big thing in a Karoo town, but you can venture out of town on a moonless night and do a bit of stargazing. Watching the sunset over the town before dinner from the nearest koppie is always a pleasant outing.
