4 MTB Stages in Guanacaste – San Carlos Costa Rica

This four‑stage bike tour explores some of Costa Rica’s most dramatic volcanic landscapes, combining steady climbs, lush forests and sweeping lake views. Beginning in Rincón de la Vieja Park, riders warm up on a 51 km route to Guayabo de Bagaces, with an 836 m elevation gain that introduces the region’s geothermal terrain. From there, the challenge increases on the ride to Tenorio Volcano National Park, a 63.9 km stage with a rewarding 1,444 m of climbing. The third day continues through rainforest foothills as cyclists travel 55.9 km to Nuevo Arenal, gaining 1,100 m before reaching the tranquil lakeside town. The final stage is a scenic run from Puerto San Luis to El Castillo, a shorter 42 km ride with 812 m of ascent and unforgettable views of Arenal Volcano. It’s an immersive journey through Costa Rica’s volcanic heartland, ideal for adventurous cyclists.
