Created in 1980, it is the second of the great Alpine crossings designed by the tireless Georges Rossini. 38 passes!
From the blue waves of Lake Geneva to the sparkling shores of the Adriatic, this fabulous route, a true benchmark in the world of cycle tourism, will make you discover the most beautiful mountain roads in 3 Alpine countries: France, Switzerland and Italy! A series of picturesque valleys will allow you to climb a whole series of prestigious passes *: Simplon, San Bernardino, Splügen, Bernina, Stelvio (with an altitude of 2757 m, it is the highest pass of the hike), Pordoï, Falzarego ....
This cycling adventure...and what an adventure! will lead you to the foot of the impressive walls of the Dolomites (Unesco World Heritage Centre), in the footsteps of the most emblematic passes of the GIRO!
The passes are generally passable from June until the end of September. However, the opening and closing dates of the altitude passes may vary depending on the snow/weather conditions at the time.
THONON-TRIESTE, the self-guided bike-freedom formula to travel at your own pace. We strongly advise you to complete this ride with at least one partner or a friend/family member in a support vehicle accompanying the riders. If you want to succeed at long distance cycling, the importance of training is evident. Like all distance rides you should prepare your body and mind for them. But most importantly, enjoy it!
