Cycletours Holidays
Bicycles are as much a part of the Netherlands as its tulips, windmills and wooden clogs. Children learn how to ride a bike before they can walk, and doing the shopping by bicycle is certainly no uncommon sight.

In April and May we offer special tulip tours, centered around the Tulip theme and you visit of course the Keukenhof. The tulip originated in Turkey. The tulip bulb reached The Netherlands at the end of the 16th century. The flower and bulb were thought to be so special that a lively trade arose quite quickly. In 1634 there was one single bulb that was so expensive, a whole canalside house in Amsterdam could be bought with the money worth it. In 1637 the government took the speculation in hand and the bulbs dropped in price drastically. The bulb and flower became 'normal'. These days Aalsmeer controls a market share of 44% of the turnover of bulbs and tulip flowers. The route leads through vast fields of tulips. You will of course also visit the world-famous, 32-hectare park The Keukenhof, where you can admire the wonderful colorful fields with flowering bulbs in peace and quiet. From Leiden it is simple to take the bus and spend a wonderful day at the Keukenhof. At the end of the day you'll catch the bus back to Leiden. The bus admission costs are included in the tour price. Between Leiden and Haarlem you will cycle through the bulb fields.

Visit the east part of the Netherlands
This trip takes you to Lochem, a small city that lies between leafy estates and is surrounded by a beautiful hinterland. Lochem has a long history which dates back to the middle ages and before. The first time it was mentioned is in an old document dating back from 1059 while excavations in and around the Great or Saint Gudula church proved the existence of a wooden church around 900. In 1233 the city received city rights. This trip provides the perfect opportunity to experience the wonderful nature and culture Holland has to offer.
Lochem lies in the area called 'de Achterhoek'. It is a popular holiday area to slow down and get some rest. The area is filled with beautiful country estates, forests, small rivers and picturesque villages. Small-scaledness is the trump card here. The people here live in charming villages or beautiful historic little cities. These villages are ideal for short breaks during one of your trips. The area is declared by the Dutch as 'the best cycling area in the Netherlands'. Considering the fact that cycling goes hand in hand with the Dutch culture, it's a convincing statement about the area.

picturesque villages, historic towns and frisian lakes
The IJsselmeer (formerly the Zuiderzee 'Southern Sea') is inextricably connected with the period of prosperity in the 17th century, the Golden Age, when Holland was one of the most powerful seafaring trading countries. After crossing the Ijsselmeer you arrive in the province of Friesland. The peace and nature have made Friesland extremely popular with skaters, but certainly also with cyclists. The route leads you through towns and villages, with the green watery countryside in between, where farming usually determines the horizon. Other important parts of the scenery consist of the numerous little bridges, that 'leap' the ditches and the sailing boats that cross the vast lakes like white swans. The last part of the tour you cycle along the Ijsselmeer back to Amsterdam again. One of the highlights on this tour is a visit to the Zuiderzee museum in Enkhuizen, which you can visit on Thursday. Here you will revive that rich past. Crafts typical of the time are practised in this open-air museum, and houses, boats and costumes can be admired.

And let's not forget the eighteen breathtaking mills in Kinderdijk. This varied trip guarantees a striking introduction to the green and cultural heart of Holland. On one day you will be roaming the centre of Haarlem, Leiden or 16th Century Delft, the next day you will cycle along the reedy borders of the Lek or Amstel river. In the historic towns there is time for visiting a museum (Frans Hals, Rembrandt and Van Gogh), shopping, or relaxation in an outdoor café. You will visit the beach and the dunes near The Hague by bike, just like many Dutch people. You will sail through the world's largest seaport Rotterdam very appropriately by boat.
