Cinghiale Cycling Tours
The Cinghiale love affair with bella Italia goes back 25 years. Our founder, Andy Hampsten, first raced in Italy in 1985, relocated to Tuscany in ’94, led the first Cinghiale tour in ’98…and we’ve been wining, dining, and cycling ever since.

Cooking and Cycling is one of our favorite tours.
It offers a balanced experience of exploring the local culture and relaxing with new friends. We will host you in our hometown village of Castagneto Carducci and spend the week cycling the amazing roads from the Mediterranean to the wooded inlands, learning Italian cuisine from a local chef, visiting a favorite local winery, and sampling other local delicacies along the way. For cyclists and non-cyclists alike this itinerary has something for everyone.
We’ll pass the entire tour at a family run inn, Hotel Zi Martino. We’ve become family with the crew at Hotel Zi’ Martino, a simple inn built by a former Tour de France rider, Carlo Guarguaglini, and his wife, Isa. Now run by their son, Fausto and his family, the Guarguaglinis understand what we’re looking for in a vacation–the best riding, a great kitchen, and a family atmosphere with fun people.
We are also a few kilometers away from the beach and sparkling Mediterranean Sea. We’ll show you the way early on in the week in case you want to spend some afternoons laying in the sand.

Quiet, untrammeled, breathtaking—Cilento keeps pulling us back for more
We’ve been enjoying the cycling in southern Campania for some years now and the area of Cilento with its vast protected areas, simple and delicious cuisine, and crisp white wines, is just the place to spend a week warming up for summer.
We will pass the week between the coastal villages of Santa Maria di Castellebate and Marina di Camerota. These seaside hotels will be our launching pads for exploring the more inland terrain, and allow a convenient home base for enjoying the marine and beach life in the afternoons.

Cinghiale has a long tradition of riding in the high mountains of Northern Italy
Andy raced over most of the passes there and we love to return to take in the glory of the challenging terrain. When two of our guests asked us to put together a tour of their favorite mountain rides for a group of friends we were delighted to head back north. First we’ll hit the Dolomites for our favorite passes and then we'll head east into the Carnic Alps. The journey east is well worth it for the quiet roads and forested scenery.
We will base out of San Cassiano to explore the passes in the Dolomites. San Cassiano is a picturesque mountain village and has the bonus of being part way up Passo Valparola. Our transfer east will take us to Ravascletto in the heart of the Carnic Alps. This tiny mountain village sits at the base of some monster climbs and has access to some more reasonable terrain as well.

Tuscany’s gravel roads
We’ll be riding on and off Tuscany’s gravel roads, weaving in and out of the Cinghiale crew’s favorite off-season haunts, and roaming the very roads where the idea for the Hampsten Cycles Strada Bianca frame was born.
We will split our time between two locations in Tuscany.
Castagneto Carducci will be our launching pad. We’ll spend the first night and last three days of the tour cycling our home turf and exploring the nature reserve Macchia della Magona.
Our transfer day will take us away from the coastal Maremma inland to the province of Siena. Here we will base out of a small tenuta near Casole d’Elsa for four nights.
This gives us two long transfer rides of 110km/70miles, two days of loop rides visiting the Chianti region and the Forest di Berignone, and shorter rides returning to the hotel in time for lunch.
