Cinghiale Cycling Tours
The Cinghiale love affair with bella Italia goes back 25 years. Our founder, Andy Hampsten, first raced in Italy in 1985, relocated to Tuscany in ’94, led the first Cinghiale tour in ’98…and we’ve been wining, dining, and cycling ever since.

Cooking and Cycling is one of our favorite tours.
Why? Well, we get to ride our home-town roads around Castagneto, visit our best friends and favorite farms in the area, and we learn something every year from our chef, Chicca Maione. Food, riding, what else is there? Wine, that's right! We're also in the heart of Bolgheri, Italy's hottest district for booming reds. Heaven.
We pack all our favorite routes and superb kitchen adventures into this week. It's the perfect itinerary for a couple with one serious cyclist and one 'maybe-I'd-rather-make-magic-happen-in-the-kitchen' partner. During our mornings cyclists can pedal to their hearts delight, while non-cyclists participate in a late morning cooking class.

For years we have been admitting that many of Italy's best features remain in the south.
Food being the most important. So, Cinghiale Tours is finally putting our tires and stomachs into the land we have long talked about. With the guidance of Enrico Caracciolo and il Barone Gerardo this past spring we looked deep in to Italy's boot for more of the good stuff. The cultures in Basilicata are ancient and have retained rich traditions of enjoying the fruits of their land. Family and meals rule over progress, and there are less people now than in centuries past.
Oddly enough we will not ride among vineyards like most Cinghiale trips. But the nearby Aglianico del Vulture DOC is stuffed with great wines, and Puglia and Calabria have fine bottles too. Whew.

These are the hardest, turniest, best roads we ride, period!
The Dolomites offer long, demanding climbs and blissful descents, while towering limestone crags loom over the dozens of switchbacks we pedal - and at the end of each day we relax and enjoy the cuisine (and beer) of northern Italy's mountainous frontier. The Alps provide iconic climbs in a picturesque setting; think Passo Gavia and Passo Stelvio. For the bike-obsessed and mountain lovers, this is the Grand Tour! Never to fear, though, Andy has relaxed his pace on the climbs since retiring from competition. And just like Tuscany, he maintains a rigorous pasta-wine-prosciutto regimen off the bike. So no stress - the emphasis here is on going big - on and off the bike. The hardest rides you'll ever laugh your way over. Come along!

We'll split the week in two amazing places in Tuscany - the interior of Chianti and the tranquil coastline of Castagneto Carducci.
The roads are secluded and winding through vine-lined hills, chestnut forests and picturesque hill towns. We'll enjoy the late summer weather on our bikes while indulging in the wine - it's harvest season - and a cooking class or two.
For those of you looking for longer days in the saddle while still having time to soak in the culture of bella Toscana, this tour is for you!
