Gran Canaria is located in the Canary Island archipelago in the Atlantic, just off the northwest coast of Africa. The capital of the Spanish island chain, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is located here and was founded in 1478. It was visited by Christopher Columbus on his way to the Americas. It is an island of volcanic origin, formed around 14 million years ago and offers an array of microclimates, vast beaches and sand dunes contrasting with ravines and volcanoes.

Part of Gran Canaria is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is a perfect place for cyclists due to its excellent road network, temperate climate, and environment that make for perfect riding conditions.
