If you're thinking about riding a mountain bike coast to coast, the challenge & quality of the riding is likely to be top of the list. So the route is from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay as we reckon it has the best trails & scenery. We head through the Lakes to the Dales via Kirkby Stephen, then the North York Moors.Black Sail Pass, Garburn Pass, the Pennine Way & Swaledale are all on route. As well as great trails, the scenery is stunning. It can be done in fewer days but that means head down & flat out with no time to take anything in. You'll need to be OK with riding about 35 or more hard off-road miles a day - some days are shorter though. Remember off road miles are more strenuous than road miles by varying amounts. In general though, the riding gets easier each day. Although it's a mountain bike coast to coast, all of the various routes also include road riding, but we keep off-road as much as we can. We'll be riding for 6 days which gives a bit of time to look at the scenery & take in the surroundings, although it's still hard work!
