Candes-St-Martin is on the list of ‘des plus beaux villages de France’, or the most beautiful villages of France. A short walk (or ride) along the river is the village of Montsoreau, an old river port from the medieval period, when the Loire was a major trade route. Its château, setting of a famous Dumas novel, is the only one in the Loire valley built in the riverbed itself.

From the golden city of Prague, the city of a hundred spires, to the baroque masterpiece of Dresden, you will follow the award-winning cycle path that tracks the Elbe river. The city centres are fantastic, but once in the countryside you will be inundated with other pleasures, from the vineyards of the Bohemian wine route to the spectacular sandstone cliffs of Saxon Switzerland. Whilst some of the towns may strike you as a little ‘Eastern Bloc’, the warm welcome you’ll receive is a sure sign that old divisions are well and truly gone!

The landscape is a mix of wide valleys, small mountain ranges, such as the Alpilles, and dramatic gorges. The landscapes majesty is matched by the charm and beauty of the towns and villages that sit within it, where French café culture is at its finest and the cuisine is built on the region’s excellent local produce, served alongside refreshing local wines. Whilst soaking all of this in, the silhouette of Mont Ventoux is never far from view. Will you go for the summit?

The city of Bordeaux, the 6th largest in France, offers a heady mix of a rich history, world-class architecture, excellent gastronomy and of course, fine wines. This tour takes offers the chance to explore this magnificent metropolis and to spend time amongst the vast vineyards of the Entre Deux Mers appellation. From the city, you’ll ride a loop to the east, taking in famous wine towns like St Emilion, Sauternes and Cadillac.

Arriving in Lisbon, the route mostly follows the Eurovelo 1 cycle network or Rota Vicentina through national parks and is lined with glorious empty beaches. This undeveloped region is home to cork oak forests, whitewashed villages, fresh seafood and a huge variety of bird life and wild plants. Discover this region before everybody else does.
