Bike Basilicata
Bike escapes in Basilicata and Puglia since 2002
Bike Basilicata is the cycling brand of Ferula Viaggi, a Matera-based incoming tour operator run by Slow Italy Srl. They have been organising bike holidays across Basilicata and Puglia since 2002, guided by a slow tourism philosophy that keeps riders close to the nature, culture and traditions of southern Italy's Mezzogiorno. The business is family-led, with Michele Cappiello as CEO and technical director, and they run their own bike shop in Matera.
They offer both self-guided and guided cycling holidays, from single-day rides to two-week journeys, grouped into longer cycling tours, short breaks and day tours. Routes take in UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the Sassi of Matera and the trulli of Alberobello, along with Puglia's gentle hills, olive groves, whitewashed villages and coastline. For riders who enjoy climbing and remote landscapes, Basilicata itineraries cross the Calanchi badlands, the Lucanian Dolomites and Pollino National Park. Food and wine are a recurring theme, with routes built around Aglianico wine, castles and Altamura bread.
Their fleet includes hybrid, road, gravel, mountain and e-bikes as well as tandems, and they provide bike rental and van support. They are members of the Adventure Travel Trade Association, ActiveItaly and the Federazione Turismo Organizzato, and are a Travelife sustainability partner. Walking holidays are handled by their sister brand, Walk Basilicata.
