Bike & Hike Oman

Starting from the Bank Muscat early morning, you and your biking guide will pedal your way through back lanes and alleys to reach the destination. Once you get out of the city the real pleasure of the Oasis Biking Tour begins. Cycling at a leisurely pace we take quiet pathways where all you may meet are birds, and a few camels and maybe a lizard or two. Pedaling on under the shade of palm trees you can explore an ancient village and experience the heritage of Oman and learn more about its history here. Afterward, as the end of the Oasis Biking Tour, we return to Al Hamra.

We meet up early morning at Al Hamra from where we are driven to the top of the hill with a short half an hour sightseeing tour of the surrounding sights including Bilad Sayt and Hut. Situated at the foothill of the towering Al Hajar mountain range Bilad Sayt is one of the most picturesque villages in Oman. The village is tucked away in the mountains with little houses set on rocky slopes and the large swathes of terrace farms surrounding it adding to it old world charm. The route winds through the scenic mountains with a great view of the village and the other sights

We eventually reach the top of the paved mountain path from where we start our descent on the bike. Follow your guide on a thrilling downhill cycling tour as we carefully descend down the steep path with frequent break cooling stops due to the scorching sun. We will cross numerous small villages on the way down. Along the way explore dusty villages with their terraced farms, and pretty houses and admire the fantastic view that this trail offer.

The group will meet the tour leader at Al Hamra Shopping Street, from where we’ll begin the Panorama Bike Tour. First, we’ll ride towards Misfat Al Abriyeen, one of the oldest villages in Al Hamra, which lies at an altitude of almost a thousand meters above sea level. The roads are well maintained but it’s a steep ride on the 5km of track we cover till the village. On reaching, we’ll leave our bikes in the parking area of the village and walk around the old mud houses and farms, exploring one of the most beautiful villages in North Oman. You also get an opportunity to see the traditional Falaj irrigation system and local kids jumping into the small pond of natural water. After exploring the village and its surroundings we’ll ride towards Al Hamra. Old Al Hamra is the perfect place to gain an understanding of ancient Oman, its people and their lifestyle. We’ll also visit an ancient house, which is considered a site of great archaeological importance and has been converted into a museum. Afterward, we’ll ride through the date farms before finishing this wonderful tour.
