History: Bicycle Adventures was begun in 1984 with one van and a multi-day bicycle tour of Washington’s San Juan Islands. The original owners added new Northwest destinations over time, growing the company to 100+ tour departures. In 2008 Bicycle Adventures was purchased by Todd Starnes and Brad Barnard, two Seattle-area businessmen with deep roots in the bicycling and bike racing industry. The duo moved company headquarters to Redmond, Washington and have continued to expand to new destinations and experiment with new types of tours. Today Bicycle Adventures’ tour offerings include over 60 destinations with some 200+ departure dates.

Created for stronger cyclists
This ‘heftier’ version of the Crater Lake tour crosses the Coast Range and sails down the knobby headlands of Oregon’s Wild Rivers Coast Scenic Bikeway along the craggy southern seaboard – then turns inland again to follow the Wild and Scenic Rogue River. The showstopper of the week, though, is the ride around one of the Seven Wonders of Oregon: spectacular Crater Lake – which Bicycling Magazine calls “a scenic road that will leave you breathless.”

Come and join us for a loop through the fabulous and remote North Cascades of Washington State, otherwise known as “The American Alps.”
Enjoy more than just mountains, meadows and waterfalls – there is as much or more diversity of scenery and terrain on this tour than any of our other 6-day tours. Try on some cowboy boots while you kick around the “Old West” town of Winthrop, then change into lederhosen for a walk through the Bavarian-themed town of Leavenworth. Pedal on road bikes, fat-bikes and gravel (trail) bikes from rainforests to rugged peaks. Descend through Ponderosa pine forests to the sagebrush desert on the east side of the Cascades. Finish the week with a ride straight through the mountains (literally!). Our route back to Seattle concludes on a trail that takes you beneath the mountains on an old railroad tunnel over 2 miles long. Celebrate an amazing week with lunch at the iconic Snoqualmie Falls Overlook.

Travel+Leisure Magazine calls the San Juan Islands “a place out of time.”
Bike pastoral roads and beside sparkling waters. Hike through an ancient forest. Spend a half-day kayaking the placid waters of Roche Harbor with naturalist guides. Experience the very best of life on the Salish Sea. Top it off with award-winning lodging and fresh island cuisine. Conde Nast Traveler named Friday Harbor (where you’ll spend a good bit of time) one of the Most Beautiful Towns in America. And Fodor’s Travel Guide trumpets, “You won’t find a nicer place to ride than these islands in the Pacific Northwest’s Puget Sound.” At the end of your tour, hop aboard a chartered float plane for a spectacular flight over the islands straight back to Seattle, included with your trip.
