Spin through the Balkans and the European heartland, enjoying great scenery, amazing food, incredible history & fascinating cultures
A 7 week, 3,700 km cycling journey from Athens to Amsterdam, from the Acropolis to the Rijksmuseum. You will spin through 10 European countries, enjoying great scenery, amazing food, incredible history & fascinating cultures. Experience the hilltop Monastery of the Holy Trinity in Greece, old town of Sarajevo, the Croatian coastline, the cycleways of the Rhine river through Germany, and the stunning cathedral of Cologne.
Start your unforgettable European cycling Odyssey at dawn from the stunning hilltop surroundings of Athens’ ancient Acropolis. After spinning through the streets of one of Western civilization’s founding cities, riders will head northwest through the hilly Greek countryside passing through historic Delphi & Metoria, perhaps pausing for some olives, figs and a sip of retsina along the way.
Soon the tour will cross into Albania, an enigmatic land dotted with undiscovered archaeological ruins and blessed with sun-soaked beaches. Next up is 2 days in tiny Montenegro through rugged mountains populated with bears and wolves.
Riders can recover from the climbs in historic Sarajevo; site of some of the worst events of the 1990 Balkan wars and the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which triggered World War I. The route in Bosnia then passes the iconic Stari Most (Old Bridge) in Mostar before turning northward into Croatia along the spectacular Adriatic, bound for a rest day in Split’s historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Odyssey continues north, island-hopping along the gorgeous coastline before washing ashore in Italy and the city of Trieste, a hotbed of Cold War intrigue. The Alps now beckon on the horizon and the cyclists will put on their climbing shoes as they slowly spin up the mountains past a trio of Winter Olympic cities – Cortina, Innsbruck & Garmisch – before descending into Munich, host of the world’s largest Oktoberfest celebration.
After quenching their thirst with a few Bavarian brewskies, the cyclists will head through Germany’s charming countryside towards the university town of Heidelberg and the start of the Rhine River bike path. Three beautiful days of cycling along one of the world’s great rivers will lead the riders into Cologne and its Gothic masterpiece, the incredible twin-spired Cathedral.
It is now the home stretch as the tour heads north past the Dutch town of Arnhem, the sight of a historic World War 2 battle brought to life in the book and film ‘A Bridge Too Far’. Amsterdam soon glides into view and the cyclists will enjoy spinning into the city on some of its 400kms of bike paths. Coming to a final halt in front of the world famous Rijksmuseum, home to many of Rembrandt’s most famous works, the riders can reflect on their incredible Odyssey and raise a toast to their adventures and memories.

Join this self-powered caravan through ancient Asian empires along the world’s most famous trading route
Our self-powered caravan begins in Beijing, China, the political and cultural centre of China and crosses mysterious lands, fiery deserts, and forbidding mountains. Almost 20 weeks later riders will arrive in Istanbul, the majestic capital of Byzantium, the Roman Empire, the Ottomans and now the Republic of Turkey. The route follows the Silk Road northwest before dropping back south in Central Asia. Included are visits to destinations definitely off the beaten track - the Pamir Highway in Tajikistan where we will climb to over 4600 meters and cycle across the 'Roof of the World' and distant Mongolia, where riders will cycle along ancient trading routes through the vast steppes and meet the country's nomadic people, experiencing their age-old traditions.
Silk Route participants will ride to the mystical Central Asian cities of Samarqand, Bukhara and Khiva, and camp amongst the stunning meadows, rivers and peaks of Kyrgyzstan. There are points where quietness pervades and where the original travellers of the Silk Route seem to be just beyond the next hill, beckoning cyclists further along this arduous trek. Time and time again, riders will be amazed at the layers of history emerging from the sand, shake their heads at all that has been lost and take heart from all that is being preserved and created. Each group of Silk Route riders will be enriched by an intricate knowledge of ancient lands crossed and the inspiration that comes from sharing a grand adventure with new friends and fellow nomads.

- Tajikistan's Pamir Highway
- Silk Road cities of Central Asia

Tour Operator Outbike Australia
30 days to ride across Australia's remote outback between Port Augusta, Birdsville and Karumba.
One of Australia's great bike challenges, tracing a trail Gulf-to-Gulf across the heart of our amazing continent.
These ancient lands reflect the heritage of Australia's First Peoples who lived out there admirably well - and the courage, tragedies and successes of European explorers like the famed but unfortunate Burke and Wills - and the settlers who forged their existence in what was, for them, a land of unforgiving remoteness.
The ride can be considered to have 4 stages, each about one week:
- Week One explores the majestic Flinders Ranges to reach the desert railhead of Marree.
- Week Two traverses the legendary Birdsville Track.
- Week Three rolls across Queensland's vast Channel Country to Mt Isa.
- Week Four rides the Gulf Country to Normanton and Karumba.
The most recent rides took place in May-June and June-July 2022 with 20-24 riders. Ages ranged from 30s to 70s with the median age in the early-60s.
Outbike's first G2G event was in 2005.
