Overview
Tour Operator Japan Cycle Tours
Explore Kyoto's ancient temples and shrines and cycle the premier Inland Sea Island route.
Spring is an ideal time to visit Japan. The tour begins in Kyoto where we visit the Golden Pavilion and Nijo Castle, then bike along a river path to the ancient capital of Nara, famous for 8th century Todaiji Temple and the largest bronze Buddha in the world. Then take your bike on a shinkansen (bullet train) to start the island tour, cycling over ten spectacular bridges with separate bike lanes. Explore scenic islands filled with fishing villages, small farms, and citrus groves and stay in traditional inns (ryokan), relax in hot spring spas, and enjoy abundant seafood. Following a visit to Hiroshima's Peace Park and Museum, another shinkansen will speed you back to Kyoto.
The emphasis of the tour is on enjoying the scenery, meeting local people, and experiencing the culture, including tea ceremony, sake tasting, and art museums.
Daily biking distances range from 20 - 40 miles at a moderate pace
