Norfolk Island Bike Tour

Tour Operator Miscellaneous
Paradise Awaits. From Norfolk Island Fitness & Health.
Norfolk Island offers all the things you love about the South Pacific, and a whole lot more. Around every bend you’ll find a new surprise or twist that will make you rethink your notions of paradise. Our beaches are some of the Pacific’s best, with impossibly clear waters sheltered by teeming coral reefs just a short swim from the sand. But you’ll also discover moody cliffs where waterfalls tumble into the sea and dramatic headlands with views that go on forever. Our culture, too, is unlike any other in the Pacific, proudly weaving together the DNA of Bounty Mutineers and their Polynesian families. And as for food culture, we’ve been enjoying organic produce and paddock-to-plate dining long before it became ‘a thing’. When it comes to nature, any ol’ island can grow coconut trees. Our island is home to the tallest fern trees on the planet and towering pines that tickle the underbellies of passing clouds, while our lush forests and offshore islands are sanctuaries to some of the world’s rarest birds. Our South Pacific adventures are truly wild. Norfolk Island’s fish-filled waters will have you reeling in the haul of a lifetime and our empty waves will take you back to a time when surfing had soul. If you prefer adventures on dry land, the Kingston UNESCO World Heritage Site will transport you back through some of the most punishing and daring chapters of Australian and South Pacific history. And right next door, our incredible golf course is the place where modern tales of heartbreak and triumph are born. What about that legendary South Pacific friendliness? Welcome to an island where our doors are rarely locked and our hearts are always open; a place where wandering cows have right of way, and everyone has time to stop and chat. Many visitors say that a holiday on Norfolk Island is like stepping back in time. We prefer to say it’s like stepping into a better time. To make any bookings, please call into the Gym and speak to Kay or Kelvin about your options.
Ride the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail
3 days (Bike: 2 days)
90 km (~45km per day)
Tour Operator Tour de Vines
At 161kms in length the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail is the longest rail trail in Australia.
This self guided cycling tour will have you riding the best sections of this fantastic Queensland getaway, whilst taking care of those pesky logistics for you.
There are some stunning bridges, some we cross and some we go under. Being elevated at the northern end there are terrific views. It’s undeniably outback Queensland but we have found a couple of gourmet secrets so we do get to enjoy quality meals.
Cycling the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail is a little bit of an adventure. It’s still on the easy side in terms of difficulty, the distances are achievable for most riders, and we start this tour at the northern end so it’s largely downhill. Although small sections are paved, the majority of the trail is either hard packed gravel or dirt track. So we recommend well-equipped mountain bikes (you can BYO bike or ask about our rental fleet).
It wouldn't be Queensland without some great pubs and iconic outback buildings to visit. It all makes for a wonderful getaway on this Brisbane Valley Rail Trail cycling tour.
- Enjoy the downhill cycling from Yarraman on the safe, fun Brisbane Valley Rail Trail
- Experience the charming outback towns of Esk, Yarraman & Fernvale
- Wildlife spotting including koala, emu and echidna
- Revisit the past at the old restored train stations
- Savour the friendly Queensland regional hospitality

1000 kilometres on the road less travelled - a multi surface adventure tour
Gravel bikes, All Road bikes, Adventure bikes - whatever you wish to call them these bikes are fantastic, and, allowing a brisk pace on road whilst still being supremely capable off-road they open up a wonderful array of possibilities for the adventure-seeking to explore the path less travelled.
A little know secret of Thailand is its astonishing network of unsealed roads. Gravel, grit, dust, and dirt trails spread out across the entire nation like vines, but generally, remain unknown and untraveled by all but the local farmer.
Slowly these roads are being sealed, meaning that quiet rural blacktop byways and concrete lanes link these unsealed gems and provide those with time to explore the opportunity to enjoy a unique adventure and see a Thailand a world away from the tourist land that 99% of tourists experience.
Drawing on a long-held passion for exploring the roads, tracks, and trails less travelled, we have woven a route from Chiang Rai in the country’s far north, to Ayuthaya, the ancient capital less that one hundred kilometres north of the nation’s present capital, Bangkok.
If you enjoy adventure cycling, gravel roads, byways light of traffic, and seeing the side of a country seldom experienced by the vast majority of visitors then this really could be just your sort of tour.

- Week One explores the majestic Flinders Ranges to reach the desert railhead of Marree.
- Week Two traverses the legendary Birdsville Track.
- Week Three rolls across Queensland's vast Channel Country to Mt Isa.
- Week Four rides the Gulf Country to Normanton and Karumba.
The most recent rides took place in May-June and June-July 2022 with 20-24 riders. Ages ranged from 30s to 70s with the median age in the early-60s.

Exploring Rural Kampuchea
With a predominantly agricultural population, and an economy still faltering following a tragic recent history, Cambodia’s road infrastructure remains predominantly unsealed and rural. Whilst this may not be an ideal situation for many people, foreign and Khmer alike, for those amongst us who like to explore a country on traffic-free gravel roads, Cambodia offers an increasingly rare opportunity.
Cambodia’s relatively diminutive size also means that, despite being able to explore the land and meet the people far from the tourist hordes, we are never far from a town boasting accommodation usually exceeding the comfort one may expect of a nation lacking in the material luxury of the West.
And as we cycle through the beautiful flatlands of Kampuchea, meeting Khmer people, it is the cheery nature, ever-present smiles, waves, and shouted greetings that will likely leave an even more profound impression that the dramatic Angkorian era architecture. It is, however, this architecture that is, with good reason, Cambodia’s number one tourist draw and is the starting point of our adventure. And as if all of this is not enough, the French colonial legacy of fine dining and drinking, along with the local cuisine, make Cambodia perhaps the best nation in the region for hungry cyclists.
