What Cycle Tours Global is All About

Bruce Robertson
At the heart of Cycle Tours Global (CTG) is the simple but powerful idea that cycling holidays aren’t just a business - they’re a passion and a way to give back. Unlike traditional travel companies, CTG isn’t driven by profit. Instead, 100% of profits are returned to cycle tourism-related charities and initiatives that support and promote the sector. This approach is inspired by organisations like SEO Travel, but CTG takes it a step further by making society and community impact its core purpose.
The motivation behind CTG is deeply personal. As someone who loves bike tours, I genuinely believe there’s no better way to holiday. It might sound corny, but cycling brings people closer to nature, local communities, and themselves. I recognise the privilege of being able to prioritise passion over profit, and I want to use that position to make a difference.
How we deliver on our mission
CTG’s model is straightforward: pay workers fairly, cover overheads, and use or donate any remaining funds to causes that benefit cycle tourism – such as sponsoring events and charities with a cycle tourism focus. This isn’t just talk - every decision is made with the goal of supporting the sector and those who make it possible.
We primarily generate income by partnering with tour operators who help us manage and improve the content on the site, and who in turn get priority search ranking and easier ways for you the user to find and contact them. Of course we don’t exclude operators that don’t pay, in the interest of being able to bring as many options to you as possible.
We also accept and welcome sponsorship from organisations that offer complementary information to our bike tour listings - such as tourism bodies telling you more about their destination, or providers of products or services excluded from, but desirable or even necessary for, your bike tour like flights and travel insurance.
However our not-for-profit model is not quite as altruistic it sounds as it is also low-cost for tour operators and sponsors. This is deliberate, in order to create a virtuous cycle: as more tour operators and cycling fans use CTG, the site improves, more funds are generated, and better outcomes are delivered for everyone involved. These are ambitious targets, and there’s no guarantee of success. But the commitment is to try, and to make a meaningful impact - even if it means falling short of perfection.
What you can do to help
CTG’s success depends on the community. Here’s how you can support the mission:
- Engage on social media: Share, like, or comment on CTG’s posts to help spread the word.
- Read and share the newsletter and click on links: Forward it to friends, family, and colleagues who might be interested in cycle tourism.
- Write a review: If you’ve been on a bike tour, share your experience to help others discover the joy of cycling holidays. Read the reviews others have written.
- Tour operators: Consider becoming a CTG partner. Collaboration strengthens the sector and amplifies the impact.
- Use the website and share the articles: The more people use CTG, the more valuable it becomes for everyone - cyclists, tourists, and operators alike.
Above all, help spread the word to other cyclists, travellers, and tour operators. CTG exists thanks to its paying partner tour operators and sponsors, and their support is what keeps the mission alive.
